Do dogs need beds or blankets?

Posted by Kudobuzz Collaborator on

THE YEAR IS 2019 AND SELF - CARE HAS NEVER BEEN MORE IMPORTANT. FOR THE FIRST TIME, WE ARE BEGINNING TO PUT OUR PHYSICAL, EMOTIONAL, AND MENTAL NEEDS BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE. WE USE ONLY THE BEST OF HEALTH AND BEAUTY PRODUCTS; ROSE GOLD FACE MASKS, ORGANIC SHAMPOOS, AND CONDITIONERS. AS A SOCIETY WE ARE PAYING MORE ATTENTION TO THE INGREDIENTS IN FOOD LABELS, MAKING SURE WE GET IN OUR EIGHT GLASSES OF WATER A DAY AND FINDING NEWER AND BETTER WAYS TO MANAGE STRESS LEVELS. WITH ALL THE DEDICATION WE PUT INTO BEING BETTER AND HEALTHIER VERSIONS OF OURSELVES, DON’T OUR FOUR-LEGGED FAMILY MEMBERS DESERVE THE SAME LEVEL OF COMFORT THAT WE EXPECT FOR OURSELVES?

Dog beds are the answer. To this day, many pet parents still feel that allowing their pooches to rest their weary paws on the floor - or in the family bed - is perfectly fine. However, providing your fur baby with their own comfortable bed is your way of providing them “doggy self - care”.  Doggy self-care does not preclude you from letting your dog sleep in your bed, it just gives them a place to rest when you are up for the day. Providing a dog bed comes with numerous benefits:

  • Alleviates arthritis and joint pain in senior dogs.
  • Gives your pooch their own “safe space” to relax.
  • Helps potential skin problems by keeping elbows and knees off of hard surfaces.
  • Provides temperature control, insulation, and warmth all year round - but especially during the frigid winter months.
  • Allows your dog to get a sound, restful night’s sleep.
  • Saves your furniture from unsightly pet hair and dander.

WHEN CHOOSING THE RIGHT BED FOR YOUR PUP, THERE ARE MANY THINGS TO TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION. ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT FACTORS IS MAKING SURE THE BED YOU CHOOSE IS WASHABLE! ADDITIONALLY, IT’S IMPORTANT TO WEIGH AND MEASURE YOUR DOG TO MAKE SURE YOU SELECT THE APPROPRIATELY SIZED BED. YOU MAY ALSO NEED TO MEASURE THE AREA IN WHICH THEIR BED WILL BE KEPT, SUCH AS A KENNEL OR CRATE.

All breeds, large and small, can benefit from having their own bed. I know that when I’ve had a particularly long day, nothing feels better than coming home and curling up under the covers with my cat, Oliver. There is nothing better than that instant feeling of relaxation, comfort, and relief. Our pets, our lifetime companions, deserve to have that same level of comfort. Animals have been found to suffer from anxiety and stress, just as we do. Large breeds and senior dogs (of all ages) have sore, swollen joints that ache and pop. Winter months are brutal on all of us but can be more so on our pets. Wouldn’t you want a place that’s all your own? A clean, comfortable, safe space to relax and keep warm - no matter the season? We would expect nothing less for ourselves, why should it be any different for our four-legged babies?
